BERLIN (Sputnik) — Germany still remains one of the main migrants' destinations in the European Union, the newspaper said.
Europe is currently dealing with hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing conflict-torn countries in the Middle East and North Africa in search of safety and shelter.
Germany expects over a million refugees during the course of 2015, according to German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
In October, in an attempt to reduce the number of refugees, the German parliament approved a package of immigration measures, including further restrictions to asylum seeker acceptance. The legislation acknowledges Albania, Kosovo and Montenegro as safe countries of origin, free of political repression and armed conflicts, and thus, under German law, migrants from these states are no longer entitled to apply for asylum in Germany.
