Putin, Cameron Stress Cooperation in Fight Against IS Only Option
LONDON (Sputnik) — Britain will refrain from conducting airstrikes against Islamic State (ISIL) jihadist group targets in Syria until a coherent plan is devised to tackle the Syria crisis, UK Prime Minister David Cameron said on Monday.

The British public wants to know that there is a wholesome plan for Syria and the region, the prime minister said during his visit to the G20 summit in the Turkish city of Antalya, The Sun's political editor Tom Newton Dunn said in his official twitter account.

Cameron has suggested that Britain should wait for a wider solution to Syria's civil war before launching air strikes against the Islamic State (ISIL) terrorist group.

Cameron Says Seven Terror Plots Foiled in Six Months
The remarks appear to be backtracking on Cameron's earlier support for British air strikes in Syria. As recently as Monday morning, the prime minister told BBC radio that he had been urging Britain's Members of Parliament to approve the country's intervention in Syria.

Earlier in the day, the prime minister held a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Following the meeting, he stated that despite differences over Syria, compromises would have to be made for a settlement to be made over Syria's future.

The United Kingdom's Royal Air Force has been conducting air strikes against ISIL targets in Iraq since September 2014, after a successful parliamentary vote in support of the intervention.

In August 2013, Britain's parliament voted down Cameron's motion proposing military intervention against ISIL in Syria.
