As the Million Mask March commences across the globe, UK Metropolitan Police said on Thursday that three men have been arrested after officers on patrol in Trafalgar Square saw them carrying suspicious objects, like weapons and grenades. Reports have also surfaced that activists have set fire to a police cruiser.

On Thursday, millions of masked activists from the Anonymous group, as well sympathizers, are taking to the streets in a global rally against censorship, corruption and war.

In the United Kingdom, thousands of people wearing Guy Fawkes masks have been met in the center of London by fortified policing operation, which included thousands of extra officers to tackle possible violence. Bottles have also been thrown over the police barriers, and fireworks have reportedly been set off by activists.

The men have been detained, and are currently held in custody at a central London police station, according to the police.

Some 18,000 have signed up for the evening rally in London, according to the event’s page on Facebook.

The Million Mask demonstration is an annual event, which has been held across the globe since 2012.

Last year, at least 10 people were detained during the Million Mask March by police in London for vandalism of public buildings and violence toward police officers.

This year, the Met police have been granted the right to force protesters to remove their masks in locations where they think criminal offenses are likely to happen.

The march is occurring in a number of major cities across the globe, including Washington, DC.
