The Foreign Affairs Committee argues granting to the British government a mandate to conduct military operations against the Islamic State (ISIL) positions in Syria.

LONDON (Sputnik) — The Committee's report will be published Tuesday, a source in the Parliament told RIA Novosti.

At the moment, the British government has a parliament approval for military operation against ISIL in Iraq, but possesses no mandate for such an operation in Syria.

"We believe that British military operations should not be extended (before Syria's inclusion in it) unless there is clear strategy how to fight against IS, as well as, end the civil war in Syria," the report says.

Syria has been engulfed in a civil war since 2011, as Syrian government forces fight opposition factions and extremist groups, including Islamic State (ISIL) and the Nusra Front insurgent groups.

A US-led international coalition has been conducting airstrikes on ISIL positions in Syria without the approval of the UN Security Council or the Damascus authority since 2014.

On September 30, Russia began precision airstrikes against ISIL militant group positions in Syria at the request of President Bashar Assad.
