MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian President Vladimir Putin offered his condolences to French President Francois Hollande on Friday over the casualties in a bus crash near the southwestern French city of Libourne, the Kremlin press service said.
The bus collided head-on with a truck carrying wood and both burst into flames early on Friday. At least 42 people died in the incident, most of them pensioners.
"Russian President [Vladimir] Putin expressed his sympathy to French President Hollande for the road crash casualties near Libourne," the statement read.
According to the press office service, Putin also offered words of sympathy and support to relatives of the dead and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the accident.
The tragedy has become France’s worst road accident since 1982.
