MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The official explained that it was impossible to tell on short notice where an asylum seeker would be granted a residence permit, and that family members could not be brought over unless the person succeeded in obtaining such permit.
"Currently the Netherlands does not have enough room for asylum seekers at the regular reception centres. That is why you are receiving an austere reception, such as in sports centres of tents, where many people share the same lodgings," Dijkhoff, also the state security and justice secretary, wrote in a letter provided by the DutchNews portal.
Dutch Finance Minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem said last week that the Netherlands could spend $1.1 billion this year accepting asylum seekers, over three times as much as the government had predicted.
