"All over Greece […] our branches have excellent cooperation with police, with coast guards and municipalities, every two weeks we have coordinating meetings in order to cut up challenges. And the challenges come mainly from the huge number of migrants and refugees we have to deal with," Angelica Fanaki said.
Europe is struggling to manage a massive refugee crisis. According to EU border agency Frontex, over 710,000 people have arrived in the European Union in 2015, fleeing poverty and violence in their home countries.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said earlier this week that the number of refugees who have crossed the Mediterranean Sea in 2015 to arrive in Greece was 15 times higher than last year.
The country has established several reception centers for asylum seeker registration and relocation on its islands, and will also participate in the EU-mandated relocation program.
