In July 2014, flight MH17, en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, crashed in conflict-torn eastern Ukraine, resulting in the deaths of all 298 people on board, including 43 Malaysians.

"[M]alaysia will remain steadfast until those behind this heinous act are made to pay for their crimes," Razak said in a statement on Facebook.

Razak's comments came shortly after the Dutch Safety Board, which has been conducting a probe into the MH17 crash, released its final report earlier in the day. The report revealed that the aircraft was hit with a 9N314M-type warhead on its left side.

Kiev and the West have blamed eastern Ukrainian militia for the incident. The militia say they do not have weapons capable of bringing down a commercial passenger jet aircraft flying at cruise altitude.
