According to the Ukrainian ministry’s Facebook posting, NATO’s resolution on Ukraine stressed the need for "diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict with Russia." It urged NATO member states to "redouble efforts to help Ukraine at this critical juncture by increasing diplomatic, political, financial, economic, material and expert assistance."
The US-led military alliance welcomed the new September ceasefire between the warring parties in Ukraine’s east as "an important step," but stressed that this effort "should not compromise Ukrainian territorial integrity nor Ukraine’s inalienable right to determine its own place in the European and Euro-Atlantic order."
Ukraine dropped its non-aligned status last year, opening the way for NATO membership and drawing criticism from Russia and many other states.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has vowed to launch a bid for NATO membership if the move is backed by a majority vote, and as soon as the country implements all the required reforms.
