The Swedish Migration Agency has been authorized to move refugees into temporary tent camps for winter as shelters had become overcrowded, Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said at a press conference Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to Migration Minister Morgan Johansson, the agency will house 1,000 refugees in 185 winter tents.

"Our standards have been lowered. The focus is now on getting roofs over people’s heads," the minister said, as quoted by Swedish public television SVT.

Lofven stressed that the country was heading for a migrant crisis of its own, the worst since the end of World War II. Almost 8,900 migrants have arrived in the country over the past week. "If this continues at the same pace, more than 150,000 will have come here [by the end of the year]," he asserted.

Nineteen Eritreans were flown to Sweden from Italy earlier in the day under the European Union’s new quota scheme for sharing refugees throughout the bloc.
