US Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs Victoria Nuland said that she was not aware of formal discussions between Russia and Ukraine on the Eurobond issue.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Ukraine is expected to discuss its $3 billion outstanding Eurobond debt to Russia on the sidelines of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank meetings this week, US Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs Victoria Nuland said on Thursday.

"My understanding is that the Ukrainian government is now approaching the Russian government and that conversation may begin in the coming days," Nuland said at a US Senate hearing on the Ukrainian economy.

US Vice President Joe Biden is “extremely worried” about the scale of corruption in Ukraine. He warned Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk that if the situation doesn’t change the United States will stop bankrolling the country, Ukraine’s Novoe Vremya reported. - Sputnik International

Nuland noted that she was not aware of formal discussions between Russia and Ukraine on the Eurobond issue.

The IMF-World Bank conference is taking place this week in Lima, Peru.

In September, Ukraine reached a debt restructuring deal with a number of its creditors to write down an outstanding $18 billion debt.

Russia has refused to accept the restructuring deal and has called on Ukraine to repay the $3 billion debt issued by Russia in December 2013.
