Around 100,000 people have taken to the streets in an anti-austerity protest in the UK city of Manchester on Sunday, local media reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the Manchester Evening News, trade union chiefs and activists are taking part in the mass demonstration as the Conservative Party members come to the city for an annual conference.

The demonstrators are protesting cuts on benefits, National Health System reforms and restrictions on the ability for trade unions to go on strike.

The rally is part of the People’s Assembly’s National Week of Action against austerity measures, held in the city on October 3-7 and a Trade Union Center (TUC) campaign against the Trade Union Bill which would make it harder for workers to strike.
