Putin ‘Filled the Void’ Created by West’s Failed Policy in Syria - Media

The West has no reason to complain about Russia’s intervention in Syria because this is the direct consequence of its ill-advised policy in the Middle East, a German newsmagazine wrote on Thursday.

“The world simply looks on as the Russian president is bombing [ISIL targets] in Syria,” Veit Medick wrote in Thursday’s issue of Der Spiegel.

“But the bitter truth is that we have no reason to complain about Russia’s intervention in Syria because this is the result of the West’s failed policy in the Middle East. Moscow is simply doing what we just had no guts to do. The West does not want to fight because the Syrian opposition is deeply fragmented and we do not know whose side to take,” Medick wrote.

Even a quick look at the past western adventures in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya is enough to realize that the policy of meddling with the internal affairs of other countries has exhausted itself.

“People are tired of wars and now we see Putin filling the void posing as the main fighter against for forces of evil while, at the same time, pursuing his own ends,” Medick noted.

“This is the belated and very unpleasant price we have to pay for our military failures in the region,” Veit Medick wrote in conclusion.
