Tspiras will lead the remains of his leftist Syriza party into the election after the breakaway of the hardcore anti-austerity group that formed the Popular Unity party.
The latest MRB poll for the Star television put both Syriza and New Democracy at 25.1 percent of votes, followed by far-right Golden Dawn with 6 percent, socialist Pasok with 5.2 percent, Communist KKE party with 5 percent, pro-EU To Potami with 4.6 percent, Union of Centrists with 3.9 percent, and the breakaway Popular Unity with 3.6 percent, while Syriza’s coalition partner right-wing Independent Greeks is predicted to miss the 3-percent threshold.
Another poll, conducted by the University of Macedonia for Skai television, has predicted that Syriza and New Democracy will finish in a tie of 27 percent of votes. It put Golden Dawn at 6.5 percent, followed by Communists, To Potami, Pasok, Centrists and Popular Unity.
A third poll by Metron Analysis for the Parapolitica weekly put New Democracy in the lead with 24 percent of votes, against Syriza’s 23.4 percent. It predicted the third place would go to the Communist KKE with 5.2 percent, followed closely by the far-right with 5.1 percent.
The fight is now on for the undecided votes, which Metron Analysis puts at 11 percent.
There will be 250 out of the 300 parliament seats up for grabs at the upcoming vote. The remaining 50 will go to the first party as a bonus.
