PRAGUE (Sputnik) — A train derailment at a station near the southern Czech town of Horazovice left fifty passengers injured Tuesday, public Czech television reported.
"Two last carriages of a starting passenger train went off the rails at a station near Horazovice, in the southern Czech Republic, hitting the locomotive and the first carriages of another passenger train that was about to travel in the opposite direction," Czech Railways spokesman Petr Stahlavsky told Czech TV channel. Seven commuters sustained moderate-to-severe injuries. Fifteen were hospitalized.
Stahlavsky said the accident occurred at about 1:17 p.m. local time (11:17 GMT). Railway traffic was suspended in both directions and replaced with bus service.
This comes two weeks after a collision between a fast-moving train and a truck at a railway crossing killed two and wounded 13, in what was the worst railway incident in the Czech Republic in almost seven years.
