Ukraine’s Right Sector Ultras Collect Votes of No-Confidence in Gov’t

Activists and supporters of Ukraine’s Right Sector far-right party are collecting signatures in Poltava region calling for the resignation of President Petro Poroshenko and his government, the organization announced on its website on Thursday.

The Right Sector, which is banned in Russia, had earlier held a rally in Kiev declaring a new phase of the “Maidan revolution”, to launch a nationwide signature collecting campaign and set up a network of signature collection points across the country.

“We will use this referendum to vote no-confidence in the government. If we really want the future generations of Ukrainians to live a decent life we must make our voice heard. We must come forward and say what we think about this government,” the head of the Right Sector’s Poltava branch, Marko Chaus, said.

“If we manage to collect enough votes we will bring about a peaceful power change in this country. There will be early presidential and parliamentary elections called,” Chaus added.

It was also announced that voter registration lists will be drawn up for each district.

In November 2014 the Russian Supreme Court declared the Right Sector as an extremist ultranationalist organization and outlawed its activities on the territory of Russia.

Several similar organizations, such as UNA-UNSO, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army UPA, Ukrainian People’s Self-Defense and Stepan Bandera Trident were also branded as extremist and banned in Russia.
