MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the newspaper, a prosecutor has summoned the politician to stand trial for denying crimes against humanity. The date of the trial has yet to be set.
On April 2, Jean-Marie Le Pen said in an interview with the French BFMTV that gas chambers used by Nazi Germany to kill Jews were “merely a detail in the history.”
The remark caused extensive criticism from the members of the National Front, including the party’s current leader, Le Pen’s daughter Marine Le Pen.
As a result, in May Jean-Marie Le Pen was stripped of his membership in the National Front, but in July a French court overturned the right-wing party’s expulsion.
