MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to the union, the Southern rail company’s engineers will hold a five-day strike, starting on July 12, "over a comprehensive breakdown in industrial relations with the company." Ninety percent of those who voted did so in favor of strike action.
The rail union stated that the workers are discontent with their working hours, as well as management imposed rosters and other issues.
As much as 80 percent of Northern rail’s station workers and guards voted to stage strike action over job security and safety concerns.
In May, more than 90 percent of Southern railway company’s train drivers voted to strike after rejecting a pay offer from the company, according to the ASLEF train drivers’ union. The strike was suspended after the company made the workers a better pay offer.
