KIEV (Sputnik) – The Ukrainian government has approved a Ukraine-EU Energy Bridge pilot project, which provides for the transfer of electrical energy from the country’s Khmelnitsky nuclear power plant’s second power unit to the European Union, according to the government’s website.
The export of energy will be brought about by disconnecting the unit from Ukraine’s national energy grid.
According to local media, Ukrainian and Polish energy companies signed a memorandum of understanding in March regarding the project.
Russia was due to cooperate with Ukraine on the construction of Khmelnitsky’s third and fourth power units, but Kiev suspended the work.
Moscow’s relations with Kiev deteriorated rapidly amid the Ukrainian crisis. Kiev has accused Moscow of participating in the armed conflict. Russia has repeatedly denied the allegations.
