MOSCOW (Sputnik), Alexander Mosesov — A recent poll, commissioned by Sputnik to ICM Research and released on Tuesday, found that less than 20 percent of Britons answering the survey wanted Europe to have its own army, while in France and Germany 37 and 36 percent of respondents, respectively, said they would favor such a move.
"Britain should have its own foreign policy and shouldn’t be subsumed into a European superstate. To give such a body as a European Union its own armed forces would be a very dangerous measure," Bruges Group Director Robert Oulds warned.
European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker suggested in March that the European Union should create its own unified army to respond to threats posed to both EU member states and neighboring countries.
