According to a poll conducted by the survey agency Sophia, 61.8 percent of respondents believe that Kiev's main goal should be to stop the war, even if Ukraine loses Donbass. Another 15.3 percent are not sure what to think on the issue.
The public mentality is dominated by the idea that the government is doing nothing or not enough to stop the war in Donbass, the agency commented.
Only 12.2 percent of respondents think that the president and the cabinet are doing everything they can to stop the conflict. A third of respondents (33.5 percent) support the idea that the government is doing practically nothing. Half of all respondents (48.7 percent) think that the government is taking some measures, but that they are not sufficient.
Ukraine has clashed with independence supporters in the east of the country since April 2014, when Kiev had launched a military operation in the region.
In mid-February, the warring sides agreed to a ceasefire but since then have repeatedly accused each other of violating the truce.
