Germany Prosecutors Close Inquiry Into NSA Phone-Tapping of Merkel
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, German media reported that the probe had been dropped as the allegations could not be proven in a legally sound way under the country's criminal law.

"The case has indeed been closed," the official told RIA Novosti.

Spying on civilians by intelligence services issue has drawn worldwide attention back in 2013, when former NSA contractor Edward Snowden leaked classified information, revealing that the NSA was running mass surveillance programs, searching for private information on US citizens and even leaders of the allied countries, including the German chancellor.
