MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Belgian federal prosecutor decided to launch an investigation into allegations of Germany spying on the country on behalf of the US National Security Agency, local media reported.
"It is in Frankfurt that Deutsche Telekom did the job for the German Services at the request of the NSA, the US security agency," parliamentarian Stefaan Van Hecke told the media outlet.
The channel reports that such lines are usually used by corporations and institutions, so it is unlikely that the surveillance was done for anti-terrorism purposes.
An espionage scandal erupted in mid-April after German media uncovered internal intelligence investigation documents alleging the use of the German intelligence technical capabilities to spy on high-ranking European officials and corporations at the request of NSA.
