The newly-elected president of Poland, Andrzej Duda, renounced his membership from the opposition Law and Justice Party of ex-Premier Jaroslaw Kaczynski on whose ticket he had been running for the country’s top job.

Duda Overcomes Komorowski in Poland's Presidential Run-Off
“I think it quite natural that when you become president you are no longer involved in any political activities”, Duda said, adding that he wanted to be the president of all Poles, not only of his fellow party members.

Last Sunday, Andrzej Duda won 51.55% of the vote against his opponent, Bronislaw Komorowski of Civic Platform, who lagged behind with 48.45% in the country’s presidential runoff elections.

The inauguration ceremony is scheduled for August 6.
