Russia and China Hold Black Sea Drills Prior to Mediterranean Exercise

Russian and Chinese navy ships held air defense and maneuvering exercises prior to entering the Mediterranean Sea on Thursday.

Russian and Chinese navy ships conducted maneuvering and air defense exercises in the Black Sea prior to entering the Mediterranean, Russian Navy press service head Igor Dygalo said on Thursday.

The first Russian-Chinese naval exercises in the Mediterranean will take place between May 17 and May 21. The exercises will involve around 10 ships from both countries.

"Prior to entering the straights, the Russian and Chinese ships conducted training exercises on passing narrow points," he said.

Russian, Chinese Warships to Enter Mediterranean on Thursday for Drills
The Mediterranean naval drill will include live-fire exercises in the strategic sea that connects Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

The drills' stated goal is to deepen friendly cooperation between China and Russia and strengthening their combat ability in repelling naval threats.
