Angela Merkel called for an end to spying among allies amid allegations that Berlin security services had together with the NSA spied on Germany‘s neighbors and the European Commission.
But speaking in Berlin on Monday, Merkel said Germany‘s intelligence services needed to continue to work together with the NSA to ensure the safety of their citizens.
"This ability to carry out its duties in the face of international terrorism threats is done in cooperation with other intelligence agencies — and this includes, above all, the NSA," media reported her as saying.
However, she added: "What has to be improved must be improved."
