Regional deputies in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv asked the Verkhovna Rada and President Petro Poroshenko to recognize Crimea and Donbass part of the Russian Federation.

During their April 28 session the local MPs asked the central government to annul a friendship and cooperation treaty with Russia where the Crimean peninsula and the country’s eastern Donbass region are mentioned as Ukrainian territory.

The idea has drawn angry flak from Kiev politicians, with former Verkhovna Rada deputy, Ivan Makar, dismissing his Lviv colleagues as “idiots.”
