A gunman reportedly rushed into the police station in northeast Bosnia and Herzegovina, shooting dead a police officer and wounding two others shouting the Arabic phrase "Allahu Akbar."

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A gunman stormed police headquarters in northeast Bosnia and Herzegovina, shooting dead a police officer and wounding two others before being killed himself, local media reported on Monday.

"The attacker broke into the station [in Zvornik] with the automatic rifle. He was killed later in a shootout," Minister of Security Dragan Mektic said as quoted by the Dnevni Avaz newspaper.

The Sarajevo-based daily also cited the country's Police Director Gojko Vasic confirming the death of one law enforcement official, Dragan Djuric, as a result of the attack.

The two other officers were hospitalized in stable condition, Dnevni Avaz added.

The assailant, whose name the RTRS broadcaster later revealed as Nermin Ibric, reportedly rushed into the police station shouting the Arabic phrase "Allahu Akbar," translated as "God is Great."

Officials told the Bosnian news outlet the deadly encounter in the border town with Serbia was treated as a terrorist attack.
