Lithuania’s officials will not attend the Victory Day Parade in Moscow, making it so far the only EU country boycotting the event, BNS news agency reported.
"Lithuania’s representatives will not attend the military parade on the Red Square in Moscow on May 9," the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry’s media department told BNS.
According to the report, the Lithuanian Ambassador to Russia will commemorate those killed in World War II on May 8 by laying flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow. The ambassadors of other EU countries are also expected to participate in the ceremony.
A number of Western leaders have refused to attend Moscow on May 9 due to its stance regarding the Ukrainian conflict, opting to send lower-ranking officials instead.
At the same time, the leaders of Kazakhstan, the Czech Republic, Serbia, Cuba and other countries confirmed their plans to participate in the event.
