United Kingdom Independence Party leader Nigel Farage said that the coalition of UKIP and the Conservatives is the best post-election scenario.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The coalition of the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) and the Conservatives is the best post-election scenario, UKIP leader Nigel Farage said Friday.

From the UKIP perspective, "David Cameron as the biggest party with enough UKIP MPs to hold his feet to the fire is for us the best option," Farage told Sky News TV Channel.

On May 7, Brits will go to the polling stations to elect 650 members of the House of Commons. According to opinion polls, the two major rivals, the Conservative party and the Labour party, are running neck and neck, and the necessity of a coalition government is likely in the United Kingdom.

Despite the comment that a UKIP-Conservative alliance might be the best outcome for UKIP, Farage said he did not trust Cameron to hold a referendum on the United Kingdom's exit from the European Union on "fair terms."

UKIP's manifesto pledges party's commitment to a referendum on Britain's EU membership, which Cameron also promised to hold in 2017, if the ruling Conservative Party wins the majority in the May elections.

UKIP, polling at about 14 percent popular support, previously expressed indifference toward which of the two main parties gained the largest number of seats in parliament.
