France Still on High Alert Three Months After Paris Massacre – Hollande

French President Francois Hollande said that France is still on the highest terror alert since the terrorist attacks in January.

PARIS (Sputnik) — France remains on high security alert more than three months after Islamist gunmen killed 17 people in Paris, French President Francois Hollande said at a Wednesday news conference.

"France is still on the highest terror alert since the terrorist attacks last January," Hollande told journalists in Paris. "We still face a terror threat – by 'we' I mean lots of countries – and we must stay vigilant," he warned.

In early January, two gunmen opened fire on the Paris office of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, killing 12 people, while another radicalized Muslim shot down a police officer and four shoppers at a kosher food store near the French capital in the following days.

Hollande emphasized it was important to ensure the good service of national security agencies in the wake of the Paris atrocities. The shootings in Paris are believed to have inspired a similar shooting spree in the Danish capital of Copenhagen.

Earlier on Wednesday, French Interior Minister said security services foiled an imminent Islamist attack on French churches on Sunday, but only because the man accidentally shot himself and called an ambulance.
