MOSCOW (Sputnik) The ambassadors of the EU member states will discuss lifting anti-Russia sanctions at their roundtable meeting with Russian lawmakers Wednesday, EU ambassador to Russia Vygaudas Usackas said Tuesday.

The ambassador said that "this issue will be raised, and this discussion may contribute to further decision-making in Brussels."

"The aim of this closed door meeting is to hold a frank discussion on relations between the EU and Russia. We are not going to make decisions, they are being made in the capital Brussels," Usackas told the Business FM radio.

The diplomat expressed hope that Russian lawmakers will contribute to easing tensions between Moscow and EU member states.

Washington and Brussels imposed several rounds of economic sanctions on Russia since over the country's alleged interference in the armed conflict between Kiev and eastern Ukraine's pro-independence militias. Russia has repeatedly denied its involvement.

The restrictions target principal sectors of the Russian economy as well as certain individuals who the West blames for the escalation of fighting in Ukraine.
