"We are ready to discuss [the demilitarized zones] in working groups. In October, we suggested the idea of a demilitarized zone at the Donetsk airport, which would have allowed to cease fire and avoid casualties. Back then, the Ukrainian side did not want to discuss it," Denis Pushilin said.
The demilitarized zone in the east of Ukraine was one of the key topics for discussion during the February meeting between leaders of Russia, France, Germany and Ukraine.
The parties worked out a ceasefire deal to settle the conflict between Kiev forces and Donbass militias.
The airport in Donetsk saw some of the most violent clashes throughout the Ukrainian conflict that have left the building in ruins. Gorlovka and Shirokino have also been severely damaged by Kiev government troops' shelling.
