MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The attack comes ahead of the June 7 general election. HDP expressed confidence that it could gain over 10 percent of the votes and thus enter the parliament.
Sirri Sureyya Onder, parliamentarian for the HDP, called the attack a provocation, as quoted by the newspaper.
Earlier in the month, during a Kurdish spring festival Cezmi Budak, former co-chair of the HDP party in Diyadin in eastern Turkey, was killed in clashes with the Turkish soldiers. Following the incident, the Kurdish population of Turkey accused Ankara for purposely provoking conflict before the Turkish election.
Kurds are Turkey's largest ethnic minority, comprising up to 25 percent of the Turkish population. Kurds are striving toward creating their own independent state and gain independence from Turkey.
