The Italian Communist Refoundation Party demanded that Italy should recall the ambassador to Ukraine. Kiev's government with Nazi elements is pursuing a totally undemocratic course, the party stated.

Ukrainian Parliament Bans Communist, Nazi Symbols
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Italian Communist Refoundation Party lashed out against Ukraine’s leadership after the Ukrainian parliament on Thursday passed a bill to ban Soviet Communist and Nazi symbols and propaganda.

The new Ukrainian law stipulates that propaganda and imagery from Soviet Communist and Nazi by legal entities, political parties or media, may serve as grounds for registration refusal and the closing down of their practice.

"#Ukraine equates communism to nazism: a pure act of historical revisionism that confuses victims and executioners, creates conditions for rebirth of nazism," the tweet reads.

Party leader Paolo Ferrero said in a statement Thursday:

“The decision of the Ukrainian parliament of equate Communism and Nazism, prohibiting their symbols, is a shameful operation of historical revisionism that confuses victims and perpetrators. We ask that Italy recalls its ambassador from Ukraine."

Ferrero noted that the communist Soviet state and its allies defeated “Nazi barbarity” in the Second World War.

“The Nazis gave birth to the concentration camps, and hundreds of thousands of communists there were massacred along with Jews, Roma, gays, the disabled."

Now, Ukraine, which once helped defeat Nazism, has taken a “totally undemocratic, revisionist” course, with Nazis being part of the government, Ferrero said.

The party leader added that the European Union and the United States are “fully responsible” for this situation, calling for an end to Europe’s restrictive measures against Russia.

Last week, Russian Foreign Ministry human rights ombudsman Konstantin Dolgov said that Kiev is mistakenly equating Soviet Communism with Nazism.
