MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The UK National Union of Teachers (NUT) called for the inclusion of a positive view on same-sex relationships in sex education programs, a resolution passed Sunday said.

The resolution was adopted during the NUT's annual conference in Harrogate, England.

"Conference demands that a future government must tackle the embedded homophobia, biphobia and transphobia that exists in schools and create a positive climate of understanding about sexuality and gender fit for the 21st century," the resolution read.

The delegates, who took part in the conference, pointed out the fact that though the situation with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual (LGBT) rights has significantly improved, prejudices, negative attitude and discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals still existed in British schools.

According to the results of a NUT survey published in late November 2014, only 10 percent of LGBT teachers felt free in disclosing their sexuality to their students while only 18 percent of school staff addressed intolerance toward the gay community.
