Turkish police launched raids against alleged affiliates of an ultra-leftist group in Istanbul in the early morning after they were blamed for two deadly encounters in the city.

At least 10 people were arrested in the raids in the Okmeydani district of Istanbul after dozens of police officers were deployed in armored vehicles to scan the area.

The raids came two days after a prosecutor was taken hostage in the courthouse and then later killed by the far-left Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C).

The prosecutor, who was shot several times by the gunmen during a rescue operation, died in a hospital.
