Major Blackout Hits Northern Netherlands
MOSCOW (Sputnik) Schiphol, the main international airport in the Netherlands, is recovering after northern Netherlands suffered a major blackout on Friday, the airport stated on its Twitter page.

Electricity supply to the airport was resumed at 10.45 a.m. local time (09:45 GMT), according to the tweet. The airport announced that air traffic is slowly resuming.

The Noord-Holland and Flevoland provinces in Northern Netherlands suffered a major blackout on Friday due to a power station failure in the city of Diemen.

TenneT, the company operating Diemen's power station, reported on its website that it is gradually restoring power. In parts of northern Netherlands the situation is back to normal.

Following the blackout, Schiphol airport was running on emergency generators, and incoming flights were redirected to Germany, an airport official told Sputnik.

Railway service in the north of the state was disrupted as well.

Reasons for the power station failure are currently unknown. TenneT is currently investigating the causes of the incident, according to a statement on its website.
