MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Erol Incedal, a 27-year-old British law student, was acquitted Thursday of accusations that he plotted a terrorist attack in London after a partially secret trial, local media reported.
In November 2014, Incedal was accused of possessing a bomb-making manual. He was forced to retrial after the first jury was unable to agree on a verdict on a more serious charge of plotting a terrorist attack.
The trial of the student was partially closed and journalists were banned from some sessions. During other sessions journalists were admitted but not allowed to report, including on testimony in which Incedal explained why the instruction was in his possession, according to news outlets.
In September 2013, London police stopped Incedal for speeding and found a piece of paper with the address of UK former Prime Minister Tony Blair in his car. Police installed a listening device into the student's vehicle.
The device captured Incedal’s conversation in which he discussed with his friend Mounir Rarmoul-Bouhadjar his plans to buy a gun. The two friends were also talking about the November 2008 terrorist attack in Mumbai. The information prompted police to arrest both men.
Both Incedal and Rarmoul-Bouhadjar, who had the same bomb-making literature, will be sentenced for the first verdict at a later date.
