US Security Support to Ukraine Reaches $120 Million - Nuland
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US decision whether to provide lethal arms to Ukraine will depend on discussions with its European partners, US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland said at the annual Brussels Forum in Belgium on Friday.

“It’s very important in any decisions that any of us [US, Europe and G7 partners] make about how we’re going to support Ukraine, whether it’s economically, politically, or in security terms, that we also discuss across the Atlantic,” Nuland stated.

The Assistant Secretary of State was asked during the high-level international conference in Brussels to clarify the White House position on providing lethal arms to Ukrainians, as supported by many members of the US Congress and Ukraine itself.

“It’s a hotly debated topic in Washington, it’s a hotly debated topic transatlantically,” she explained, noting that US President Barack Obama “has not made a decision” on the issue.

The partnership and coordination between the United States, Europe and the members of the G7 economic bloc has been “the great strength” in approaching the internal crisis in Ukraine, Nuland said.

Within the US Congress there is broad support and legislation to arm Ukraine. In Europe, Italy, Germany, and France have stated their opposition to such lethal aid.

The United States and United Kingdom have sent military advisers to Ukraine, according to public reports, and the governments of Poland and Canada have also expressed their intention to send military advisers.
