SAS Airlines Gives Works Ultimatum: Go Work or Go Home

Workers of SAS airline will be fired if they don't return to their job and end their strike by 12 p.m. Monday after ignoring a court order, SAS airline said.

The conflict between SAS airlines and its striking cabin personnel is coming to a head, with the work delay reaching its fourth day Monday. The airline gave striking employees time until 12:00 Monday to get back to work otherwise they will be out of job.

“The illegal work stoppage has negative societal and economic consequences. Therefore it is necessary that SAS, as a responsible company, takes further steps to normalize operations for the sake of our customers and employees,” SAS said in press release.

According to the rules of the Danish Labour Court (Arbejdsretten) on Sunday, the 140 striking employees represented by the Cabin Attendants Union (CAU) needed to return to work. CAU defied the decree and 40 SAS Sunday flights were cancelled.

In Copenhagen Airport 51 additional in and out flights had been already cancelled by 8am Monday.

The working staff are protesting against SAS's intentions to keep them from changing the collective bargaining agreement of Cimber airlines, which SAS acquired in December. Cimber’s bargaining agreement was not as generous as SAS's.

The CAU arranged a 09:00 meeting for workers to discuss their reaction to the SAS ultimatum.
