KIEV (Sputnik) — The Ukrainian Interior Ministry launched an investigation into a criminal case for the dispersal of mass protests by the Kiev’s National bank against financial troubles in the country, Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said Friday.
“I have launched an investigation into the case, the results will be published no later than in the next 48 hours,” Avakov said on his Facebook page.
The so-called “Financial Maidan” protests began in Kiev on Tuesday. Protesters demanded Ukrainian National Bank head Valeriya Hontareva’s resignation. The Ukrainian armed forces have reportedly used force when dispersing the protests, injuring some.
Ukrainian media reported that police used batons, and pulled down protesters’ tent with the bulldozer.
Ukrainian national currently, the Hryvnia, has plummeted due to the military operation launched by Kiev forces against independence supporters in eastern Ukraine in April. The Hryvnia fell almost 50 percent against the US dollar in 2014, with further depreciation occurring in 2015.
