"Ukraine has found itself under external rule, when the current leaders are being told what decisions to make from abroad, Yanukovych told Argumenty i Fakty in an interview.
The former Ukrainian President also called on world powers to put pressure on Kiev to end the armed conflict between Kiev and the independence militias.
"The [Ukrainian] authorities blame all their blunders on the war. To put an end to the conflict, the international community must exert pressure on the Ukrainian leadership in order to stop the war," Yanukovych said.
He also stressed that only talks can lead the country out of the deadlock it is currently in, while "great powers" should act as guarantors for the fulfillment of the agreements.
Yanukovych was elected President of Ukraine on February 25, 2010 to serve a five-year term. He was ousted from power in February, 2014 after months of mass protests caused by his decision not to sign an EU association agreement. He fled to Russia, fearing for his life, and is currently wanted in Ukraine on charges of corruption and abuse of power.
Earlier in this month, the Ukrainian parliament stripped Yanukovych of his presidential title.
