MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Copenhagen police killed a man at the city's Norrebro district, following shootings at a cafe and a synagogue, the police said in a press release Sunday.

"Copenhagen Police have fired and killed a man shortly after 5:00 [4:00 GMT] in Norrebro," the police said in a statement.

According to the press release, the man was deemed suspicious in relation to the shootings in a Copenhagen cafe Saturday evening and synagogue early Sunday. The man opened fire at the officers, who fatally shot him.

"Police are investigating right now whether the person could stand behind both shootings at Krudttonden and synagogue in Krystalgade," the statement said.

On Saturday, two gunmen opened fire at a debate on free speech in a cafe in Krudttonden, Copenhagen. The attack left one person dead and three injured after about 40 shots were fired. Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt said Saturday shooting was a terrorist attack.

On Sunday, the police confirmed that a person was shot in the head by an unidentified gunman in a synagogue in the Danish capital. Earlier, it was reported that that a gunman has opened fire near a synagogue in central Copenhagen injuring three individuals, including two policemen. The other two victims of shooting were wounded in arms and legs.
