Ukrainian artillery resumed heavy shelling of Donetsk and Luhansk early Friday in the immediate wake of the Minsk peace accords.

Ten people, including small children, were killed and scores injured in Ukraine’s war-ravaged Donbas region early Friday as Ukrainian artillery resumed its shelling of areas in and around Donetsk and Luhansk.

According to preliminary information, provided by the emergency services of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics, many houses have been damaged and public utilities cut off.

The attack came less than a day after the meeting of the leaders of Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine in Minsk succeeded in negotiating an agreement to resolve the conflict in Donbas.

Among other measures, the 13-point agreement provides for a ceasefire starting on February 15, and the withdrawal of heavy weaponry and foreign military formations.

At the same time, the document requires Ukraine to commit to the adoption of a new constitution and the implementation of a law granting special status to “some parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.”
