According to an official projection issued by the country’s Interior Ministry Greece's Coalition of the Radical Left party, commonly known by its acronym Syriza, has received 36.5 percent of votes in the country’s parliamentary elections.

ATHENS, January 25 (Sputnik) — Greece's Coalition of the Radical Left party, commonly known by its acronym Syriza, has received 36.5 percent of votes in the country’s parliamentary elections, according to an official projection issued by the country’s Interior Ministry on Sunday.

Syriza is followed by the center-right New Democracy party, led by current Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, which has gained 27.7 percent of the votes. The far-right Golden Dawn party has so far received 6.3 percent, followed by To Potami with 5.9 percent and the Communist Party with 5.6 percent.

“Seven parties enter the parliament. Syriza gets 150 seats, according to preliminary data,” an Internal Affairs ministry spokesperson said, noting that the numbers will change as more votes are counted.

The projection comes as a quarter of the votes have been counted.

The Syriza party has pledged to revise highly unpopular austerity introduced in Greece over the country’s sovereign debt crisis.

Sunday’s snap elections in Greece come after Hellenic parliament failed to elect a president and was formally dissolved on December 31, 2014.
