UN General Assembly Adopts Russia-Proposed Anti-Nazism Resolution
UNITED NATIONS, January 21 (Sputnik) – Russian envoy to the UN Vitaly Churkin called on all UN members to strengthen their commitment to the Russia-initiated resolution against the glorification of Nazism at the conference devoted to the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp Wednesday.

"We therefore urge all states to promote and implement the provisions of that resolution and further strengthen their commitment. We'll continue to present this resolution in the future. It is a paramount moral obligation of the international community to rally around it," Churkin said.

The envoy added that it was improbable that the previous vote on the resolution was not unanimous.

In December 2014 the UN General Assembly's 69th session voted on Russia's resolution "Combating glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to fueling contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance." Only three countries, the United States, Canada and Ukraine, voted against the resolution, 55 abstained and 115 countries voted in favor.
