DONETSK, January 7 (Sputnik) — United Nations monitors who collect data on those killed and injured in the Ukrainian conflict have not been cooperating with the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) authorities, DPR negotiator in Ukrainian reconciliation talks Denis Pushilin said Wednesday.
“UN monitors in this matter [of collecting data on those killed and injured in eastern Ukraine] do not cooperate with us and when outlining statistics they rely on data given to them by Kiev,” Donetsk News Agency quoted Pushilin as saying.
According to the UN estimates, more than 4,700 people have been killed in the course of the conflict, and over 10,000 have been wounded.
The internal conflict in eastern Ukraine erupted in April, when Kiev forces launched a military operation against independence supporters in the country's eastern regions, who refused to recognize the legitimacy of a new government that came to power following a February coup.
