Ceasefire With East Ukraine in Effect : Special Operations Press Center
DONETSK, December 9 (Sputnik) – The Donetsk Airport has come under fire after a bilateral “day of silence” agreement between Kiev and the eastern Ukrainian self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, Deputy Chair of the DPR Parliament Denis Pushilin said Tuesday.

“At 10:00 a.m. [Moscow time or 07:00 GMT] our positions in the [Donetsk] airport were fired upon from the Peski area. We won’t say that the ceasefire regime has been breached, but we need to see how it will be observed in the future. We hope that this was a single incident from ‘hotheads’ and Kiev will be able to act on their activities,” Pushilin said.

Last week, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko called for "silence regime" along the line of contact in the country's southeast starting on December 9, in a bid to promote a truce between the opposing parties. On Monday, the Ukrainian defense minister announced that a ceasefire deal had already been reached.

In a separate move, the Ukrainian government declared Tuesday a "day of silence", allegedly to allow the withdrawal of heavy arms and artillery from the southeast.

Last week, the DPR parliament admitted that it had reached a ceasefire agreement with the Kiev government in the area of the Donetsk airport. The region's authorities also pledged to pull out their military hardware from the airport by December 10.

The international airport to the north-west of the militia-controlled Donetsk city has been a flashpoint of Ukrainian military attacks on the southeastern region, prompting fierce clashes with militia.

“The Ukrainian side has already presented a list of 223 individuals, and from our side there are 152,” Pushilin said.
