"Civil society organizations involved in rendering aid to the citizens of Ukraine are monitoring human rights situation in Ukraine. As a result more than 150 applications to the Ukrainian courts and several dozen applications to the European Court of Human Rights were prepared," a report by the Civic Chamber, presented at the organization's meeting Friday, stated.
In September, the Russian Peace Foundation made an unsuccessful offer to act as a mediator and facilitator of a public dialogue to encourage peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.
On November 15, the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine issued a report documenting numerous incidents of human rights abuses in eastern Ukraine. The report stated that between the September 6 start of the ceasefire and October 31, at least 718 deaths had been reported, an average of 13 victims per day.
On November 24, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced it was preparing another edition of the White Book on human rights violations in Ukraine.
The conflict in eastern Ukraine escalated in mid-April, when Kiev launched a military operation against independence supporters who disavowed the legitimacy of the new Ukrainian government which they accuse of seizing power in a coup.
